How a small eight-year old greenhorn becomes a real cowboy is charmingly told in this simple little story with plenty of chuckles. Joe came to his father's ranch all set for branding and steer roping, and acquiring a swell cowboy name. He had something like ""Sure Shot"" or ""Two-Gun Sanders"" all picked out, but Speed the cowboy explained that a cowboy had to earn his names, and also it would be better to wait on the branding and steer roping. Then Joe was very humiliated when such horrid names were tacked onto him -- Dude, Dogie and Windy- after some revealing and embarrassing ""dudisms"". However, Joe by a brave act wins a satisfyingly manly cowboy name.
