A better than readable tale -- this story of Australia of a century ago, with its social conditions gauged on the population made up of convicts, natives, English officials, and mystery casuals. The neer-do-well cousin of the earnest new governor, gets into hot water, and then goes off on a tangent, his imagination fired by the tragedy of the ex-groom, Flusky, ex-convict and now one of the town's prosperous citizens, and his beautiful wife, Lady Hattie, a drunkard and wreck. This ought to appeal to the market of Pageant.
