SNAKE IN THE HEART

This 1988 novel by the eminent Danish author focuses on Copenhagen journalist Max Mollerup's tenure in Paris (during the 1960s), embattled relations with his actress mother and other difficult women, and struggles to ensure his own job security and (wavering) reportorial integrity. It's a sort of Henry Miller novel with insufficient sex and even scarcer joie de vivre: an earnest character portrayal mired in redundancy and glumness.
