THE BOOK OF LIFE

Subtitled, The Story of the New Testament, this illustrated volume is a competent translation of the well-known French Catholic author's L'Evangile de mes Filleuls. Appearing soon after the English translation of the same author's introduction to the Old Testament, the present work is an introduction to the New Testament. It is written for children in a style that is simple and clear. It explains briefly the nature and facts of composition of the New Testament and then proceeds to tell the story itself of the Four Gospels. It concludes with a reference to the Church and its role of continuator of the message of Christ. The story of the life and death of Jesus is told in an interesting, direct and inspiring manner. The short exclamations and frequent animadversions made in the course of the narrative with the intention of inspiring and instructing the reader do not interfere with the smooth flow of the narration itself.
