A WORLD TREASURY OF PROVERBS

This is rich harvest for the addict of such books as Bartlett's Familiar Quotations and Stevenson's Home Book of Quotations. In topical arrangement, cross-indexed for author, key word, thought, the editor has brought together over 15,000 proverbs. And under the term ""proverb"" he has managed to include an incredible number of sayings which are familiar- often misquoted- rarely identifiable as to source and origin. Where such information is available, he supplies it. The pithiness of the selections will make it invaluable for afterdinner speakers, etc. Should prove to be a standard reference book- for long term sale. 25 languages have supplied the material; quite naturally, about one half of the material is English or American in origin.
