Semi-sociological in approach, but with much of the material those who like true detective material will appreciate. The author presents present day criminology (primarily European in substance and cases), and blames modern civilization for the type of criminal activities. Shows how sensational publicity etc., contribute to wrong educational set-up. Covers various types of crime, -- murder, arson, drug smuggling, pick-pocketing and larceny, gangster organization (and a few American specialties such as lynching). He touches upon modern methods of detection. His viewpoint is not an optimistic one and he pleads for better educational methods and wider social consciousness.
