THE BIG CATS

In his characteristically pat style that is so factually humorous Herbert Zim shakes paws with lions, tigers, Cheetahs pumas, leopards, panthers, ocelots, house cats, lysxes, jaguars and ancestor of them all- the creodont- here. By way of introduction he explains the carnivore tree and places cats on their proper branch. Then he notes the combination of traits that makes cats about the most powerful of all animals- their retractable claws, their supple musclsture, their sensitive eyesight etc. Different kinds of cats the world over and how they live are also illustrated by Gardell Christensen's rather frank drawings. Nice.
