FOOTLOOSE IN SWITZERLAND

If you have traveled with this author through France, Canada and Italy, you will know what kind of a jaunt to expect. For this follows the pattern of the three earlier titles, a bright and breezy run-through of some history, snappy profiles of the personalities of cities and districts (here very vertical), and an overall of the deluxe to moderate priced hotels and other places to stay. There is a to be expected accent on sports; sightseeing and entertainment has competent coverage; shopping and schools and current happenings are included as well as local customs, traditions and costumes. Geographically you go from Zurich, Northeastern Switzerland, to the Grisons, Italian then French Switzerland, to Berne and Bernese Oberland, Basel and Lucerne and Central Switzerland, with the variety of languages and food taken into account. Details on travel, by air, railroad, bus and steamers; vocabularies for food in four languages; a lively approach to the passing (and past) scene; photographs, mostly by the author -- all add up to a traveler's work and reference book for planning before and consulting an route.
