The best all around book on Haiti, for an increasing tourist traffic, by a veteran magazine writer who came to the island with his family, an open mind, a willingness to learn Creole, and no fear of bad roads or local superstitions. The family saw and did everything, made many friends, and got more than a visitor's view of voodoo- and there's a generous report on zombies and dark ceremonials which lend an exotic fascination to the island. For the prospective traveller, there are two good chapters with specific information on where to stay and what to eat- and what not to eat. And all in all, this is an attractive account of an attractive holiday habitat.
