TRUTH AND THE PERSON IN CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY

Truth and the Person in Christian Theology is Hugh Vernon White's newest book. Dr. White, Professor Emeritus of the Pacific School of Religion, is quite insistent that Christian faith and Christian theology cannot be equated -- ""our little systems have their day"" -- but at the same time they can never be completely separated. To quote Hugh White, ""In faith the primary actor is God, in theology the actor is man. God, however, must be heard, seen and known by the human person."" In his preface he explains that he spent much of his time as an apologist for missions in convincing ministers of Christian churches that the gospel they were preaching was true. In a sense this is what Dr. White has done in this interesting and well written ""basic"" theology -- he is convincing us that the gospel which we are preaching or have heard preached is true. Modern man, clerical or lay, needs to know why this is so. Here Dr. White serves a real need.
