ORO (Gold)

A fantastic combination of international banking intrigue, Jewish ritual, alchemy, and the eternal triangle, against a Buenou Aires background. The fortunes of an Argentinian house of Rothschild are followed through several generations, culminating in the conversion of a grandson to Christianity. The theory of the eventual domination of the world by the Jews is strongly played up, and the gold negotiations are ingeniously developed. Because the plot races along with movie technique this is lighter reading than the subject matter would indicate. Not quite up to the previous standard of this most popular South American novelist.
