KINGDOM OF THE TIDES

For an older age group than Ruth Brindze's excellent The Rise and Fall of the Seas, (1964), this is a more detailed study which interested adults might find a useful survey. The topics included are the origin of tides and their development, the physical factors which affect the movement of the tides, tidal phenomena, the influence of the tide on the earth and on life including human life and history, and ""the future of tides."" The material is well-organized and concise, and the many chapter subheadings make the book easy to follow. There is a glossary, an annotated bibliography, and a list of sources of further information.
