CREATIVE PLAY ACTING

A guide to the teaching of dramatics to young people, particularly suited to the 8-12 age group. From the basic thesis that dramatics is a healthy guide for the release of emotional tension, the author discusses the development of a group in ""creative dramatics"" through activity and mood pantomine, dialogue, then finally the presentation of long and short plays, often evolved from earlier group pantomine. The teacher, in this case, is the ""Leader"" in the group which supplies ideas, original movements, and the emotional impetus. This may be a bit visionary for some and the progressive flavor may be a bit too strong, but there are stimulating suggestions for directing children's plays with the emphasis on spontaneity. Some cursory chapters on stagecraft, and specific suggestions for stories for dramatizations and three original plays.
