UP THE TRAIL FROM TEXAS

Described by a loving, experienced hand, these annals of Texas trail driving days- the period of post-Civil War wholesale drives to markets in the North- have a realistic ring and a wealth of anecdote that overlooks few of the aspects of ranching and herding in the 60's. Short chapters with on the scene narration give a feeling of immediacy- as a typical cowman tells his own story, as longhorns are described as a breed, as Chisholm's Trail is travelled, as cowtowns are visited, desperados fought, and so on. A wealth of material for young ropers and tiers, this is good historical background too.
