Mr. Levison has had thirty years experience as forester for Brooklyn and New York parks and is well known for his landscaping on Long Island and surrounding country estates. He has written this book to answer the problems of the average person and has managed it with such elasticity that any amateur who owns one acre or a thousand will find the basis for a planting and landscaping plan. His chapters tell of trees, their color, size, description of leaves, shape, pests, diseases, etc. The climates they like and how to plant, cultivate and use them. Besides this he gives a spendid chapter on lawns so important as the background for beautiful trees and an excellent chapter on flowers with charts containing every conceivable type of information. Month by month another chapter takes us through the year telling just what should be done at each season. The care of woodland sections is handled with artistry and imagination. In spite of this the book is simple, concise and as the title implies a Home book to be kept on every gardener's shelf for the enjoyment of the whole family and in every garden library. Professionals will find plenty of suggestions and meat to interest them, however.
