A desperate call by Elena Baker sends Pelchek to Las Milpas to exonerate her husband, condemned to death on a framed- up murder charge. Time is short, but Pelchek manages to penetrate the dust and heat and the hostility of the town's Big Men to discover the culprit in the midst of Baker's sister's business firm. Love, light and heavy, abounds ... the hero and Miss Baker; the neat piano player at the inn and Reyes, the cooperative sport -house keeper. Mexican-white animosity is repaired and we end up with a bland dish of cold-cuts and frijoles.
