THE FABULOUS FIREWORK FAMILY

Author-illustrator Flora (whose colorful record album covers have made his work familiar) tells a Mexican fiesta story with some flair, though the plot seems over-done and depends on the bright pictures to carry it through. It is mostly about a family- Pepito, Amelia, Mama and Papa, who live in Santiago and make fireworks for festivals. When a particularly big fiesta comes along they go to work with their gunpowder and pinwheels for a magnificent display and when a rocket lands in a vulnerable spot a pickpocket is caught in the act. Gently explosive.
