THE CATHOLIC IN SECULAR EDUCATION

A book of fact, quotation and comment, this volume concerns the American Catholic student and teacher in secular institutions of learning on the elementary, high school, college and graduate levels. The author is a Catholic educator who all his life has been either a student or teacher in secular schools. The book's facts are significantly informative and the comments are constructive. The author is critical of certain negative attitudes shown by some Catholics toward secular institutions and is respectful of the respective merits of Catholic, non-Catholic denominational and secular schools. The future situation of an inevitable increase in Catholic attendance at secular institutions of learning is faced realistically and practical suggestions are offered. The book will be of interest to chaplain and members of Newman clubs on the secular campuses and to Catholic educators generally. It will be of particular interest to those in positions of responsibility concerning the Catholic and secular education.
