MARRY IN HASTE

Yesterday's cream puff all about a brave little governess and an English Lord in the time of Napoleon. Camilla Forest, daughter of an impecunious gambling, French count, but thoroughly English, wisely embarks on a marriage of convenience with Lord Leomister (familiarly Lavenham) to forward his hopes of an inheritance from a tyrannical grandmother who wishes to see the woman-hater married. Then off to Portugal where Leominster spies for the British and Claudia's sister-in-low becomes temporarily involved with Camilla's French brother. Highpoint, one might say, of Portugal, is Lavenham's fit of amnesia following a scrap; an heir is conceived, but alas, with Lavenham's memory of the event gone--how to prove the bridegroom cameth?--But all ends happily after an escape from Portugal and the birth of a baby with--the ""Lavenham foot!"" Footless.
