TWO SERIOUS LADIES

A novel of biting brilliance"", we quote -- ""outrageous comedy, frustration and weird psychological humor"" -- we quote again -- and from the publishers. Weird will do to qualify this first novel of two eccentrics which is sometimes repellent, sometimes unnatural, and lucid only on occasion. Baldly, the facts are as follows. Miss Goering, a very rich lady, attracts as living companions a former governess, Arnold -- forty year old incompetent, and Arnold's father, an old goat. These do not satisfy her and she goes on to bar pick-ups, one a malcontented syphilitic. Mrs. Copperfield, our other lady, runs to prostitutes -- meets two in Panama, and adopts their life. Both ladies, until they work out their ""salvation"" this way, have been lost and unhappy. We felt pretty much the same way.
