Three straight faced little farm stories in a petite series imported from England are all pretty solemn and have little function except as implicit models of good behaviour. Unimaginatively humanized animals take the star roles on the Smiles' farm and each small book is an inconsequential story about them. At Ernest Owl's school all the animal children enjoy their first morning- lessons, recess and dancing. Postman Joe the Robin's job is to tell all the animals not to worry about the large red tractor the Smiles have bought. And at Christmas there are stockings and fun properly done-with the angelic looking Smile family officiating. The colored pictures by F. Stocks May have the appropriate sedate quietude. Rice pudding.
