Now that he's finished first grade, the quirky, self-possessed hero of Dinosaurs Are 568 (1988) is back, his experiences st ill shaped by his own strong character. While everyone else in his class at the pool progresses in the usual way. Raymond learns to swim faster than anyone--but only under water. Then, not understanding their mission, he makes friendly conversation with some daytime burglars who are emptying the house next door--but is so observant that he's later able to help the police catch the miscreants. Later, he finally becomes a surface swimmer after a happy day watching the fish at the Monterey aquarium. It's all rather quiet fun, but nicely told. Readers who enjoyed Raymond's earlier experiences will like this too.
