VALLEY OF NIGHT

Romance, murder, wreckers, smuggling -- all capably handled by deus ex machine Jasper Shrig, as he persuades a retiring gentleman to concern himself with the overdue inheritance of one Virginia Wrybrook. The action centers around the Cornwall coast and the dubious behavior of the Polgarth family, with Virginia the center of the net. The evil doers get their rewards -- Virginia takes the boy who loves her -- and Shrig's enlisted helper gets himself a wife. Familiar Farnol fantasy, translated into somewhat different terms.
