These two volumes in the projected ten-volume ""Drug-Alert"" series are excellent introductions to drug education. Low-keyed, factual, attractive, and readable, each explains what the drug is--its history; effects on the body; and symptoms and consequences of addiction--while also urging the reader to ""take control of your life and make it a drug-free one!"" Both legal and illegal drugs are included in the series. The simple but appealing illustrations, in pen and soft-color wash, show multiracial older children and adults experiencing the negative effects of drugs and, more cheerfully, ""saying no to drugs."" Drawings of the heart, brain, and lungs are also helpful. Useful and attractive. Glossary; index.
