THE FIRE ENGINE BOOK

Toy book appearance like the train book puts this in the picture book class, but the text is definitely for children who are ready for straight information. It is a long book, shaped like a fire engine, the cover bright red and heavy board, wheels attached with rings so that they turn. The pictures by Koering throughout give a running record of the things the fire engines and the firemen do, and pictures are supplemented by factual rather uninspired text telling of the special features of different pictured types of equipment:- hook and ladder, pumps, extinguishers, searchlight trucks, water tower, hose wagons, rescue wagons, fireboats, and so on. The pictures are so clear in themselves that the text seems unimportant.
