This is the third one of Charyn's blue-black caperlets (after Marilyn the Wild and Blue Eyes) taking place in the bas fonds of New York City. Well below street level and even above, it's a whiffy topography be it black ale or black piss, curds or turds. This time Patrick Silver, a Limerick lad under his yarmulke and six-foot-three in his bare feet as he walks into the Plaza, is assigned by a small godfather, Guzmann, to watch over the youngest of his five sons, a baby of 44, in fact a dummy. Papa has been conducting a numbers racket in his candy store and you'll meet an assortment of barmen and bagmen and fortune tellers, pimps and policy men, as well as the teenage porno queen, Odile. Everyone is into something or somebody. Charyn's XYZ-rated comic turn is really no bigger than a chromosome even if the story will become a film. That'll take some doing.
