THE FROG BAND AND THE OWLNAPPER

Once more, notorious villain Nick Gristle leads Smith's Frog Band on a mad, mad, ingeniously choreographed chase, which Smith depicts from a variety of viewpoints including closeups, cutaways, and dizzying heights. This time Nick owlnaps young Olly Hoot of Hoot Hall, a pupil at Peck Academy and a nephew of Sir Octavius Hoot, the Yorkshire pudding magnate. (""Hoot Heir Missing,"" reads a news hawker's sign.) The frogs spot Nick at the Throttle Fair Parade and chase him through a fancy tail salon, across river and railroad track, on to a hilltop teawagon where they find the ""trussed owl."" But they don't get their hands on Ollie until the runaway teawagon takes an involuntary turn on the Throttle Fair roller coaster and eventually lands the young owl on a barge on the river. Swift and exuberant, like all the Frog Band capers.
