More silver screen hysterionics, not quite up to the Barrymores, but a second run or close to it since the Bennetts, handsome, authoritarian paterfamilias Richard and his three pretty daughters (Constance and Barbara, remember?) totted up fourteen marriages and eleven divorces among them. Richard died bankrupt and drinking too much both off and on stage; Barbara, the quiet one, also sipped and swallowed too many pills; while Constance, the golden girl, and the most like her father, never gave in. They both wanted ""very little. . . only (their) own way in everything."" As for Joan, who made more films actually than Constance, she also worked steadily on the road and now still does in television. . . her film career blown by ex-husband Walter Wanger's shooting scandal. She or rather they (Lois Kibbee was also an actress-writer-director) tell the story in daytime serial-ized fashion and it will do at just that level.
