Maggie, now 13, goes reluctantly to Beverly Hills to spend Christmas vacation with her movie-star father, Roger Ledoux, and his new wife, Kiki, a 21 -year-old starlet, although she'd rather be back in Houston with her beloved maternal grandmother. Next door to Roger's beach house lives Timmy Blake (called Blake), teen-age star of his own TV mystery-space series. Though at first Blake seems self-absorbed, he is grateful for Maggie's friendship. Accompanying Blake, who is dressed as Dick Dackery, his video persona, on a visit to children in a hospital, Maggie makes a new friend, Truly Norris, who is working as one of Dackery's present-giving elves and wants to be an actress. Maggie, Roger, and Kiki discover that Truly's agent, Jerry Klinke, is a fraud and has been stealing her money. Kiki, who's really understanding and fun, gets Truly a lawyer. After a hectic Christmas Day chase in a fancy restaurant, they serve Klinke with a subpoena, and Blake, pleased to have helped nab Klinke, kisses Maggie. Maggie decides she has had a wonderful Christmas after all and will successfully be able to juggle her two families. Many readers--especially those who liked the two earlier books about Maggie--will enjoy this.
