A CALF IS BORN

Even children who have seen how My Puppy Is Born (KR, 1973) will be newly amazed to watch this larger (about 100 pounds at birth), more independent calf emerging in its sac from the seemingly indifferent Daisy, then standing up almost immediately, groping about for the teat, and beginning to nurse. The expulsion and the mother's eating of the placenta complete the process, and as a plus. we're given close-up views of Daisy being milked and Daisy's mouth at work on hay and grass, along with a diagram and explanation of her ""special stomach system."" Superior.
