by John Bagot Glubb ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 1, 1969
Sir John Glubb's biography of Muhammad has, in common with, the author's (eight) previous works on Arab history, a directness of approach and treatment which is made possibly by the author's determination to tell his story clearly, simply, and without recourse to the strategems and qualifications Which more ""scholarly"" writers employ to cover their tracks and hedge their bets. In this case that is all to the good, for it makes of the present work the only sound, comprehensive and ""popular"" work in English on the life, times, and people of the Prophet. To make it an outstanding work of popularization, it lacks only grace of style, and a more integrated approach in the final chapters (""The Conquests"" and ""The Expansion of Islam""). Still, The Life and Times of Muhammad may be recommended as a very useful work for the general reader or the student of history.
