Carrousels have enchantment for all, so this story laid in upper New York State should appeal to many. Dan was an unfortunate orphan who inherited a gift for wood-carving. He had his first break when a passing gypsy gave him a wounded pony. Later the boy was taken on by Carl Landow who was making the first merry-go-round in America. A vivid and unusual picture, which shows up the bigotry of some settlers who believed all pleasure was sinful. There is excitement, love of good craftsmanship, plus the sure appeal of a horse.
