This and the book that follows WATCHMAN OF THE SEA) deal with identical subjects, the U. S. Coast Guard. Floherty has selected many of the same incidents as Perry, but has a dramatic story telling quality that Perry lacks. The salient facts are there -- though so vigorously related that one feels one is reading grand adventure. A book which puts over the facts of the service in popular, vivid style.
