NAIL DOWN THE STARS

Hectic planet-hopping with Lon Gallamor who changes names as often as he changes occupations, starting at a tender age as a circus skillman and becoming at various times and in various places an actor-playwright, a warrior, a slave, a bard, and a reluctant ruler, until his hardwon retirement at a ripe old age that even he isn't sure of because of the time dilation effect of star travel. None of this makes much sense, but it's energetic enough and the message -- peace is best -- is certainly unarguable.
