This book does a good many of the same things that the Lovejoy book does (So You're Going to College -- S & S -- see page 241 for report). Here is where it differs. There is less space given to reference material on colleges, the list is selective instead of being all inclusive. The information about comparative costs is better organized, and more practical for the average student, and possibly less emphasis is put on cutting costs, getting loans and scholarship, and self help, though there is enough of that for those who need it. Finally, the types of colleges are discussed as types, rather than as specific institutions, and the things by which comparative values are tested by parent and student are more accessible. Six types of colleges (state, municipal, endowed universities, small private colleges, denominational and junior colleges) are studied. Then alternatives in the way of trade, technical and vocational institutions are discussed. Compendium of useful information for prospective student.
