Puck of Pook's Hill brought up to date! -- Interesting imaginative job on the descendants of the Romans who once inhabited England, and who are discovered living under the earth by the son of an archeologist whose enthusiasm for Roman remains has been linked with his disappearance. One expects a recreation of history but instead finds the Roman spirit carried to the nth degree in a society controlled by Master Minds, the masses having sacrificed emotions, passions, interests to the state. The boy is almost caught but escapes, with strange memories of his discoveries. There is a Wellsinn fantasy quality -- in the blend of science and imagination. Good reading for those who like the blend.
