MY BIG WIDE BEAUTIFUL WORLD

I have a hunch this book will go. The sections that have appeared in the Atlantic have aroused a good deal of friendly and interested comment. There is a native sincerity -- a gusto -- a real sense of values and human interests -- that takes it out of the ordinary. A stunt book, yes -- the diary of ten years spent in seeing the world and fulfilling a childhood ambition, told by a Negro woman who earned her way around the world, taking jobs whenever she needed to augment her funds. A unique travel book -- but primarily a unique human document. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
