GREEK TEMPLES, THEATRES AND SHRINES
by ‧RELEASE DATE: N/A
This presentation of the temples, theatres and shrines of ancient Hellas aims both to bring alive the past of the structures and to detail their architectural development and history. To this end, it is divided into two sections. The first essay by Helmut Berve, professor of classical history in Leipzig and Munich, describes the human history, the uses of the sites and buildings. The second essay, by Gottfried Gruben, architectural historian of the German Archaeological Institute in Athens, deals with the architectural aspects in specific terms, in The Greek Mother Country, Magna Graccia, Ionia and Pergamum. There are 212 illustrations, 36 in full color, plus 160 drawings and plans. A competent survey of the past, with the added attraction of the architectural explanation, and excellent, well placed photographs.
