An autobiographical account of a conversion from Judaism to Catholicism by a Jewish-German doctor. Dr. Karl Stern, born in Bavaria, a student and clinical technician in Germany in the war interim and the early years of Hitler, reviews his spiritual doubts and conflicts, and the fortunes and hardships of himself and his friends during that time. His first con- with Catholicism came in kindergarten where he was taught by nuns. After that time, however, his religious orientation was in the Jewish religion. Dr. Stern rests his case for his conversion on arguments which minimize the field of psychiatry and rationalistic humanism in the matter of spiritual fulfillment. He also makes the highly controversial statement that Judaism is analogous to Nazism in its racial exclusiveness, and that Jews are urning their backs like Jonah on a new revelation in the interests of personal sovereignty. Expect a publicity campaign for this one, and heated discussions.
