JAMES AND THE RAIN

A rainy day story with ambling verse and amiable pictures is told by Karla Kuskin, author of Roar and More. Little James wears a yellow slicker buttoned up to his chin and carries an economy-sized big black umbrella as he fares forth and asks the animals if they ""have any excellent rainy day games?"" Toads, birds, mice, rabbits, dogs and ducks all stroll in the rain with James who rides on the back of a hospitable cow. They sing the praises of the rain and finally snooze by a warm fire Indoors. Author-illustrated. Easy reading for beginners.
