LIVING IN TOKYO

A beautiful gift book, with its charming format and illustrations in line and water color by Marjorie Nishiwaki. The flavor of the book suggest mildly House of Exile, though the angle is that of a foreigner looking at the life among foreigners in Japan. Discusses what to expect from the Japanese, the servant problem, what life is like, spicing it now and again with personal anecdotes. Pleasantly written, and enthusiastic in her opinion of Japan and the Japanese. No hint of concern over social and economic problems, nor the conditions in the political arena.
