EAST OF THE SUN AND WEST OF THE MOON

The dimensions are those of a picture book, but inside are solid pages of text punctuated, at every other opening, by a full-page, full-color illustration in the fin-de-siecle mode--inclining sometimes toward Bilibin, sometimes toward Max-field Parrish. The text is merely a flavorless paraphrase of the original, and inferior as storytelling or drama to the Dasent version. Nothing is accomplished altogether except to present this much-anthologized story in a single (costly, undistinguished) volume.
