HOW TO GROW A JELLY GLASS FARM

Remember How to Make Elephant Bread (1971)? Well, this is a similarly heavy-footed appeal to the after-dinner gardener that runs the gamut from the obvious (avocado pits, yam vines and pineapple tops) to the downright silly (grass seed planted in an old sneaker). The bold, full-page pictures distract attention from the directions, which are so casual that even the author doesn't expect them to work; the last page is devoted to consolation -- when nothing grows go pick some weeds and ""if your friends ask to see your jelly glass farm, tell them to come back next year."" Or maybe never.
