DEVIL MOUNTAIN

Autobiographical adventure, the story of exploration and gold prospecting in the wild jungles of Venezuela, as the author, with Jimmie Angel, dare devil pilot who had once landed on the virtually inaccessible top of ""Devil Mountain"" (Mr. Auyan-Tepui) attempts another flight over the surface of the high plateau. Plane trouble causes Angel to turn back, but Dennison goes on with some natives to scale the summit on foot. There's an exciting canoe trip through turbulent waters, a perilous climb, and the groundwork for prospecting the plateau is laid before snake-bit, beri-beri and mutiny had made it necessary to turn back. Exciting adventure -- superb descriptive writing.
