Ever since the New York Times Cookbook weighed in initially at $10.00 and institutional encyclopedic cookery compendiums tilted the scales at 5 pounds upwards, clumsily-manipulated mammoths seem to be the order of the cookbook shelf. Here's another, impossible to fault seriously, certainly generally helpful to the breakfast coffee browser, but why must such monsters be continually foisted on the American housewife? Everything's here--charts, buying tips, menus for every occasion, varied treatment of the principle viands, party procedures (including the wedding round) etc. etc. Adequate for its kind, undoubtedly blessed with superb, full color illustrations--for the bride a general look-see; for the ""mature"" housewife, old, new, borrowed, cordon blue.
