VIETNAM AND THE COUNTRIES OF THE MEKONG

Despite the addition of substantial new material updating the 1967 original, Henderson's survey never really gets to the point in its perfunctory enumeration of the pros and cons of American military involvement. The mood of evasion is typified by his summarizing call to the ""youth of the West"" to help Southeast Asia through selfless and idealistic service in Peace Corps type endeavors, even though this kind of activity will have to take place ""outside the present conflict"" or perhaps ""parallel"" to it. Both analysis and prescription are more obfuscatory than informative.
