SPINNING TOPS

Larry Kettelkamp has the rare faculty of recognizing and then defining and illustrating topics of total fascination to younger readers. (See his Kites, 1959 and Cliders, 1961.) In this, he tells about how to make tops, what mechanical principles apply to their ability to stay in motion, and how to spin and play games with them. There is a digest of their known history and the illustrations are as instructively clear and good looking as ever.
