A rambling, out-of-focus account of the missionary work of David and Elva Legters in the wilds of the Yucatan Peninsula. Accepting uncritically the evangelistic premise that a particular sect of Christianity (of which the missionary is an advocate) is the only way, is a prerequisite to an appreciation of this book. The less dogmatic may find some sections dealing with the land and people of the primitive peninsula interesting, but may quaff at the manipulation of the natives--through obviously worthwhile medical ai-toward imposing an alien religious theology. (Catholicism also shares in the hearty scorn.) Our forgetful author, after informing us that Mr. Legters' only cuss word is ""Oh, cow!"" sets down other stunners like ""tarnation"" and ""by heck.
