HOW SPACE ROCKETS BEGAN

Windwagon Smith is looking for a home. He goes sailing about the world and particularly the United States seeking just the right sort of home, but does not find one. Filled with the pioneer spirit of his times, he decides to launch a steam vehicle of his own invention and send it to the moon. But Indians and bandits intervene, and Windwagon ends up sending the bandits off into space and remaining out West with his family where his enterprising nature contributes richly to American expansion. A whimsical blend of science, humor and adventure make this a tall story which should entertain those readers who have read with enjoyment the author's Cap'n Dow and the Hole in the Doughnut, Cats for Kansas, Matilda, etc. The author's zany drawings support the general atmosphere of ""anything goes"", and heighten the general effect of satire which underlies Le Grand's text.
