An album, of a very large family, of many photographs and explanatory test, records and commemorates the origins and development of railroading in a worthwhile and concise manner. There has been a necessary selection from an overwhelming mass of material, but the move from the wood burning locomotives, to steam engines, to steam turbines, electrics, diesels, RDC (rail diesel cars) and the possibility of the Talgo-type for the future, is easily followed, as is the recording of firsts, the growth of regular service, the increase of speed, and the shapes and sounds of this type of transportation. Workers and maintenance are noted; there are old time sheets and schedules and time tables; and the blue bloods among the engines are all here in pictures, as well as the changes in the tracks themselves. For that market whose ardor for iron horses does not seem to wane.
